People adoringly address her Tanu and she is also reckoned as the ‘Queen of Bollywood’. Appearing on India TV’s Aap Ki Adalat, the bold actress recounted the story of her first break in Bollywood. The National Award-winning actress is known for being a self-made lady and calling a spade a spade. She is the very epitome of self-made with no insider connections whatsoever. She is also one of the most outspoken and vociferous opponents of nepotism in the film industry. The epigone was born on the 23rd of March 1987.
Her ambition was to become a doctor, Instead, she ended up being an actress. Kangana is from a small town called Bhamla Himachal Pradesh. She belongs to a Rajput family. She was brought up in a joint family. She has been a very stubborn child since childhood. She reacted to her father who brought a plastic gun for her brother and a doll for her where she asked him to get a gun for her too.
Kangana has been fashionable since childhood. She used to wear good clothes in bright colors. She did her schooling at DAV school, Chandigarh. And she was a student of science. Kangana used to be good in studies but she once failed in her unit test exams in chemistry, where she thought of planning something new. Though she had prepared for her All India Pre Medical test, her fashion sense and wish to break social norms brought her to Delhi. She started her life there at the age of 16. A modeling agency recognized Kangana’s beauty and gave her a few modeling assignments. Meanwhile, she also performed on stage. She also played an actor by taking both the male and female roles where she got such an appreciation where she decided to go to Mumbai to try her luck in films. She joined the Drama school where she started struggling in poverty. She denied her father’s money as she still was a stubborn child. And it was when a casting agent took her to Mahesh Bhatt.
She said “a couple of girls went for an audition test held by Bhatt camp for Gangster. I too went along with them. I gave the test and then Anurag Basu called me and asked my age. I said I am a teenager. .but that role was of a mother. He told me you are good and also have theater experience, you have that understanding but you are underage for this role. But let me see what I can do. After waiting for two months, I rang him and he told me that I was not selected. Chitrangada Singh got the role but doesn’t know what happened as her phone got switched off. She had to outdoor, Seoul.. Just a week before the outdoor shoot I got a call and he asked me whether I have a passport.. I said no.. he said if you can make a passport within a week then we will give you the film. I called my dad and took his help. Bhatt Sahab and Mukesh ji also helped me.”
And in her very first movie she proved that she was an outstanding actress. She started to work in films at the age of 17 and was awarded the Film fare best debut award. In 2006 Mahesh Bhatt’sLamhe’ was released whereof no doubt she was seen with great acting. In 2007 ‘Life in a metro’, 2008 ‘Fashion’. She solidified her reputation as a leading lady who can shoulder mainstream film, with hits like ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu weds Manu’ series.
All these films proved Kangana as a mind-blowing actress. She was the recipient of the National Film Awards twice.
