Born in 1959 in Delhi and graduated in psychology from Lady Shri Ram College. Vandana’s father worked in German MNC where she got an opportunity to visit Germany. She started studying cosmetology in German. Beginning from cosmetology she learned many courses later on. In 1980 Vandana got married to Mukesh Luthra and was blessed with 2 daughters.
During her graduation days in Delhi, she came across several people who wanted to lose weight and look beautiful which struck her mind, and realized that there is a market for her business proposition. In 1989 she got the idea of VLCC. In the beginning, it was a small beauty parlor in Safdarjung. She recalls “I had a bit of saving and I also took a bank loan. I took over a running place that was about to shut down. It was a small, thousand-square-foot beauty salon that someone was closing and moving out of. It was near a cowshed in the Safdarjung enclave called Krishna Nagar. There were lots of cows parked close near the cowshed”
She transformed the place and got into something different and made it to the requirements of the customers. The salon was called the Curls and Curves at that time. VLCC was claimed to be a total wellness center from beauty care to Health management programs. Now the company has become popular not only nationally but internationally. Today the company offers a series of services like slimming, beauty and grooming, laser, hair transplant, and many more. VLCC is one of the leading beauty and wellness service industries in India. The company is operating the services of more than 326 locations in 153 countries, they have employed over 5000 people including medical professionals, nutrition experts, cosmetologists, and beauty professionals. At the present time, VLCC has set up manufacturing plants in India and Singapore. The company produces and sells products like skincare, body care products, and hair care. VLCC is affiliated with VLCC personal care products, VLCC Day Spa, VLCC Institutes, VLCC Nutri-Diet clinic, VLCC Gym and salon, VLCC Medi-spa.

She is also the member of MDNIY (Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga) and the Vice Chairperson of the NGO, Khushii with projects like a vocational training facility, telemedicine centres, and a remedial school with midday meal facility.
Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga is an organization under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. She became the patron of Amar Jyoti Charitable trust, a voluntary organization rendering rehabilitative services. It is an Institute for Coordination of Yoga Education, Training, Promotion, Planning, Therapy, and Research in all its aspects.
Vandana is the recipient of the Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian award. Indian express selected her as the Top 100 most powerful Indians. In 2014 she became the chairperson of the Beauty and Wellness Sector Skill Council. She has been ranked 26th Forbes Asia 50 Power BusinessWomen.
