The multiple gods and goddesses of India have distinctive features of their own. Uttar Pradesh is also known for its complex pantheons of deities that they worship day by day. The goal of this article is to list out some of the deities being worshipped in Uttar Pradesh.

ARANATHA

Aranath was born in Hastinapur, Uttar Pradesh in the Ikshvaku dynasty and was the eighteenth Jain Tirthankar of today’s half cycle of time (Avasarpini). Aranath was the eighth Chakravartin. He was also the thirteenth Kamadeva. He was born around 16,585,000 BCE, as per the Jain beliefs. He became a liberated soul, that is, a siddha which has ruined all of its karmas. His parents are King Sudarshana and Queen Devi (Mitra). His date of birth was the tenth day of the Migsar Krishna month of the Indian calendar.

Fish is the symbol of Bhagavan Aranath. Arahnath asked his followers to perform the spiritual penance. He guided them to have love and compassion. He also made them understand the fact that only by getting separated from carnal pleasures one can gain Mukti.

To realize oneself, self-discipline comes first. The person must buckle down so as to be near the ocean of life, birth cycle and gaining moksha. Every individual soul will look for such an upraised state so that this deity is highly worshipped by the people of Uttar pradesh.

It is known that there were 50,000 monks with arnath.

LORD KRISHNA

Lord Shree Krishna is one of the most worshipped deities among the peoples of Uttar Pradesh. One of the most widely revered as well as most popular of all the Indian Gods is worshipped as the eighth incarnation of Avatar of the Hindu God Vishnu. He is also worshipped as supreme God in his own right.  Krishna became the focus of many groups which have over the centuries made a lot of religious poetry as well as music and paintings. He is a God of compassion and love in Hinduism.

Every year Krishna Janmashtami, that is Krishna’s birthday is celebrated by Hindus as the lunisolar Hindu calendar. It mainly falls in late August or early September of the Gregorian calendar.

Krishna’s life stories and narratives are generally named as Krishna Leela. He is one among the main characters in the Bhagavata Purana, the Mahabharata, the Brahma Vaivarta Purana and the Bhagavad Gita. He is also cited in many Hindu theological, philosophical and mythological texts.

Lakshmana was born in Ayodhya. Lakshmana means he who has the signs of fortune. The younger brother of Rama and his aid in the Hindu epic Ramayana was famous.  He was also known by other names saumitra which means son of Sumitra,  Ramanuja  which means the younger brother of Rama and  Bharatanuja,  which means the younger brother of  Bharata. Lakshmana is the twin brother of Shatrughna but his immense love for Lord Rama is well known.

NEMINATH

Neminatha is the 22nd Tirthankara in the Jain religion. He also known by the name of Nemi, or Aristanemi.  As per the Jains, there are four Tirthankaras that are regarded the most important. Neminatha is one among the four, and fascinated with devoted worship. Along with Neminatha the other three are Mahavira, Rishabhanatha and Parshvanatha.

Neminatha lived 84,000 years before the next ford-maker, Parshvanatha as per the Jain beliefs. He supposedly lived for 1,000 years. He was born as the youngest son of Samudravijaya and Shivadevi. He is also reportedly the cousin of the Hindu god, Krishna, and he was born at Sauriura. Neminatha is observed by historians as a legendary character. There are a lot of references to him in literature.

PARSVANATHA

Parshvanatha was born in Varanasi Uttar Pradesh and was the first Tirthankara for whom there is historical evidence. This evidence is completely connected with legend. One text claims that Mahavira’s (the most recent Tirthankara) parents imitated the teachings of Parshvanatha. But there is no proof that Mahavira himself precisely entered any religious order founded by that teacher.

When Parshvanatha permitted monks to wear an upper and lower clothing, Mahavira gave up on garments altogether. As per the tradition, the two sets of views were settled by a follower of each of the Tirthankaras, with the disciples of Parshvanatha accepting Mahavira’s reforms.

The legends framing Parshvanatha highlights his connection with serpents. It was said that his mother had seen a black snake crawling by her side before his birth, and in sculpture and painting he is always noticed by a canopy of serpent hoods over his head.

RAMA

An ideal man of all of humanity, the name of Lord Ram appears on the top. The pillars of faith are strongly connected to Lord Ram and is one of the most worshipped deities of Uttar Pradesh.
