On 15 August, 2017 during the 71st Independence Day celebration the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi had said:

“If each one of us, irrespective of where he belongs to, strives with a new resolve, new energy, a new strength, we can change the face of the country with our combined strength in the 75th year of our independence in 2022. It will be the New India – a secure, prosperous, and strong nation. A New India where there is equal opportunity for all; where modern science and technology play an important role in bringing glory for the nation in the global arena.”

On 12 March our Prime Minister had stated that “Today is the first day of the Amrit Mahotsav of independence. This Mahotsav has started 75 weeks before 15th August 2022 and will run till 15th August 2023.”

On behalf of his words taking it as an inspiration, the Government of India has taken a decision to celebrate 75 years of India’s Independence on 15th August 2022 in the form of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. This was initiated on March 12 to glorify 91 years of Dandi March. The government of India has organized a chain of events to celebrate the anniversary. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is going to be celebrated as a people’s movement all over the country.

Shri Narendra Modi, claimed that Azadi Amrit Mahotsav refers to the elixir of energy of independence. It means the essence of inspirations of the warriors of freedom struggle; essence of creative ideas and pledges and nectar of Aatmnirbharta

All you need to know about the series of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’:

  • The union home minister led a national implementation committee to develop policies and planning of events to be initiated for the commemoration.
  • The curtain raise took place on March 12, which is 75 weeks ahead of August 15, 2022.
  • The curtain raiser activities scheduled under ‘India@75’ theme such as a film, website, song, ‘Aatmanirbhar Charkha’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Incubator, were endorsed in the event.
  • Several cultural programs were organized on March 12 celebrating the invincible spirit of the country.
  • The Prime Minister also flagged off ‘padyatra’, along with the lines of Gandhi’s Dandi March.
  • ‘Padyatra’, the journey of 241 miles will extend over 25 days which is expected to end on April 5. 81 marchers will undertake the ‘Padyatra’ from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi in Navsari.

He stated that, during the freedom struggle salt was the source of India’s self-reliance. The British not only destroyed India’s self-reliance but also hurt the values of the Indian’s.

The first 75km-leg of the ‘ Padyatra’ was led by Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel. Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, Governor Acharya Devvrat, and Union MoS Prahlad Singh Patel also appeared at the celebrations on the occasion.

This huge event will be around India’s freedom struggle, ideas, achievements, actions, and resolve at 75. These are decided to be the five pillars to celebrate 75 years of Independence.

“Freedom Struggle, Ideas at 75, Achievements at 75, Actions and Resolves at 75 – these five pillars will inspire the country to move forward,” said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The Central government ministries and associated departments are arranging their own schedule and programs for each of the following 75 weeks and are pulling out all stops, according to a Mint report.
