Uttar Pradesh, a land known for its galaxy of natural beauty, spirituality, legends and cultural diversity. The place is a fusion of Hindu spirituality and Muslim culture. There are a lot of places to explore the Mystic beauty and legendary heritage and many other monuments. Uttar Pradesh can be compared as the soul of India.   Let’s take a look at some of the famous places in Uttar Pradesh.

AGRA

India has kept a jewel just next to near to its heart known as Agra. Love, war, hatred and innumerable mysteries. The most that you will feel here is the impact that it is a place that is on the books blogs and magazines. 

It is known for its heights and has a mesmerizing architecture and art side.  Agra has the beautiful Taj Mahal and used to have the biggest ancient courts, Deewan-e-Khaas, Meena Bazaar, Sheesh Mahal has made it one of the biggest forts.  Agra is also known for the best street foods. From movie record to world record it has made the globe’s biggest structure surrender by coming first amongst the world’s seven wonders. From warriors, lovers, fighters to the rush on the streets, Agra is a must place to visit.

LUCKNOW

Lucknow is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.  The place is a home to several prominent educational and Research organisations. Lucknow was ranked ‘India’s second happiest City’ in a survey conducted by IMRB International and LG Corporation. The tourist attractions in Lucknow include Bara Imambara, British Residency, Janeshwar Mishra Park, Chandrika Devi Temple, Ambedkar Memorial park and many more. Lucknow is known as the golden city of Nawabs. Lucknow was ‘India’s first CCTV city’ with over 9000 CCTV cameras installed all over the city. The classical Indian dance form, Kathak, gained its popularity  from Lucknow.

VARANASI

One of the best pilgrimage attractions for Hindus over centuries. The land of Varanasi has been often known as Benares, it is also known as an oldest living city in the world. These are words of Mark Twain which includes it all: “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older than legend, and seems twice as old as all together.”

It is believed by the Hindus that those who die in the land of Varanasi would grant salvation and freedom from that of birth and rebirth. Varanasi is the residence of Lord Shiva and Parvati, the origins of Varanasi are still unknown. People believe that the river Ganga in Varanasi has the power to wash the sins of mortals.

ALLAHABAD

One among the biggest cities of the North Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in India. Even though in 1575, Prayagraj was renamed Ilahabad, the name later became Allahabad in an Anglicized version in Roman script. The city was again named to its original name Prayagraj by the State government in 2018. This beautiful city is sited on an inland peninsula, bordered by the rivers Yamuna and Ganges on three sides, with only one side united to the mainland Doab region, of which it is a part. This land is of importance in Hindu scriptures for it is found at the convergence, known as Triveni Sangam, of the holy rivers.

KANPUR

Kanpur, a city that is famous for its leather and textile industries. 11th most populous urban agglomeration in India and the 12th most populous city. Kanpur is the second-largest city proper and the largest urban agglomeration in Uttar Pradesh. The land was an essential British garrison town till 1947 when India gained independence.

MATHURA

Mathura is known to be the birthplace of Krishna in Hinduism. It is situated at the Krishna Janmasthan Temple Complex. It is one of the seven cities considered holy by Hindus that is the Sapta Puri. In ancient times, the Kesava Deo Temple was built on the site of Krishna’s birthplace (an underground prison). The kingdom of Surasena’s capital was Mathura, ruled by the maternal uncle of Krishna, named Kansa. Mathura celebrates Janmashtami grandly every year.

Having an ancient history, Mathura was believed to be the homeland and birthplace of Krishna who was born in the Yadu dynasty. As per the Archaeological Survey of India plaque at the Mathura Museum, the city is cited in the oldest Indian epic, the Ramayana.

FATEHPUR SIKRI

First planned city of the Mughals dynasty in India it is located in Agra district in Uttar Pradesh the city was founded by Emperor Akbar. It is believed that the blessings of the Sufi saint Shaikh Salim Chishti gave Akbar a son. Akbar shifted his residence and court from Agra to Fatehpur Sikri or the City of Victory. The Panch Mahal is one of the most fascinating buildings in Fatehpur Sikri.

AYODHYA

The place of great historic importance. It is one of the holy places in India visited by thousands of Hindu Deities. Ayodhya forms the base of the holy Ramayana and the end of Ravan. It is the birthplace of Lord Rama.

VRINDAVAN

The land of beautiful songs and plays of Lord Krishna. Situated on the banks of river Yamuna Vrindavan is the land where lord Krishna grew up and played with his friend Radha. The lanes and forests of Vrindavan are so alluring. It is believed that even today Radha and Krishna come and do Rasleela. The ancient sculptured banks, the lilting sounds of the water, a boat full of singers and the air suffused with the fragrance of the temples are the main attraction there.

JHANSI

No other city symbolizes valour and sacrifice as Jhansi. The city has been remembered by its great queen Rani Lakshmibai. The victorious monuments around Jhansi have witnessed the glorious past of Lakshmibai. Some of the attraction there is Jhansi Fort, Jhansi museum also known as the Uttar Pradesh government Museum, Orchha Fort Complex, St Jude Shrine, Rani Mahal, Panchatantra Park and many other beautiful places are there to be visited in Jhansi as well as Uttar Pradesh.
